The B.C. Marine Terminal Operators Association (BCMTOA), the leading voice representing marine terminal operators across British Columbia, has officially announced the appointment of Alicia Peters as its new President. To ensure a seamless handover, outgoing leadership will continue to support the transition through the end of September.
Ms. Peters joins BCMTOA at a pivotal moment for Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway. With British Columbia’s marine terminals playing a critical role in supporting Canada’s trade competitiveness, supply chain resilience, and economic growth, she will serve as a leading advocate for the industry at the local, provincial, and national levels. In her new role, Ms. Peters will work closely with port authorities, marine transportation associations, governments, industry partners, and other stakeholders to advance BCMTOA’s public affairs and policy priorities.
Bringing over 15 years of experience in government relations, strategic operations, and multi-stakeholder initiatives across highly regulated sectors, Ms. Peters is exceptionally equipped to guide the association. Her early career included working for Canada’s Minister of International Trade, where she contributed to federal trade policy and industry engagement. In the private sector, she led enterprise regulatory strategy and major organizational transformation initiatives for one of British Columbia’s largest financial institutions, advising senior executives and boards on strategic governance.
Recognized as a Business in Vancouver Top Forty Under 40 honouree, Ms. Peters is celebrated for her leadership in governance, strategic planning, regulatory affairs, and industry collaboration. She also serves on community boards and a federal regulatory tribunal, and holds a Master’s degree from Dalhousie University. BCMTOA Chair Marko Dekovic noted that her strategic background and deep understanding of policy environments will further strengthen the association’s role as a trusted advisor to its stakeholders.
As the association looks to the future, BCMTOA also extends its sincere gratitude to outgoing President Stephanie Jones for her exceptional leadership and service. During her tenure, Ms. Jones successfully guided BCMTOA and its members through significant industry challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and British Columbia’s historic floods. Her dedication and professionalism have strengthened the association’s national profile and positioned BCMTOA for long-term success.
